Employing discrete circuitry and components faithful to the original, the 73JRII gives engineers and musicians a classic, creamy tone for their 500 Series racks.

This preamp sports a stepped input attenuator, a Hi-/Lo-Z switch to accommodate multiple types of microphones, a DI input, a line switch, a polarity switch, a 20 dB pad, and a selectable high-pass filter. Phantom power is on tap to handle condenser microphones. Special care was taken throughout the construction of this preamp, with careful attention paid to the power handling. With the 73JRII in your rig, you'll have the perfect complement for ribbon mics, vintage synths, guitar DIs, and more.

Quality Components

Employing only discrete circuitry and conventional components, the 73JRII is a faithful 3 stage Class-A '73 preamp. Styroflex and tantalum capacitors have been used throughout. No corners were cut.

Adjusted High-Pass Filter

The discrete Class-A high-pass filter has been updated, making it sweepable from 20 to 220 Hz. Now it is even easier to make your low end tighter without affecting desired frequencies.

Class-A Line Input

The Line mode allows reamping prerecorded tracks, making it perfect for adding some Class-A color to lifeless recordings.

DI Input

The smart switched DI (automatically switching from Mic to DI mode when inserting a mono 1/4" connection into the DI jack) is an all discrete Class-A JFET circuit, ahead of the Mic transformer, preserving all the power you need. It sounds particularly good on bass.

Power Handling for the Modern 500 Series Enclosure

Special care has been taken with power handling, implementing an internal +24V, slow turn-on regulation—about 20 seconds to reach full voltage. This makes your 500-Series enclosure's power supply healthier, and isolates 73JR from the rest of the slots.

Transformers for Mojo

The output transformer, the same used all along the Heritage's line of products, is made exclusively for Heritage Audio by Carnhill in their St. Ives factory and has a big impact on the sonics and performance of the unit.
